Free Form Cross Hatching

I’m always on the lookout for fills I haven’t used before. On my last quilt I tried a free form cross hatching technique that was really fun, very fast, and allowed me to fill in even the smallest areas with ease. You can see it on the gray/brown area to the right of the white blossom below.

For those of you who haven’t already tried this great fill I made a little video to demonstrate it.

Sometimes it’s a challenge when I have a tiny space that needs to be filled to keep the design consistent.  Here’s another detail photo to show just how small of a space you can quilt with this free form cross hatch. The turquoise arrows point to the small fill areas.

Of course you could also fill a large space quite quickly by adjusting the distance between your lines. Give it a try, I think you’ll like it!
